NASHVILLE, TN — A 38-year-old man was arrested Monday night at a Nashville karaoke bar after allegedly seizing control of the stage, queuing 31 consecutive songs under fake names, and barricading himself behind a stack of bar stools to prevent staff from reclaiming the microphone — a standoff that lasted approximately two hours and ended only when his voice gave out.

Brett Cody Hannigan reportedly began his set at Loose Strings Karaoke on Division Street at around 9 p.m. with a rendition of “Sweet Caroline.” Rather than yielding the stage to the next singer, Hannigan allegedly used the venue’s tablet song-request system to add 31 songs to the queue under aliases including “Not Brett,” “The Real Singer,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody Guy.”

When staff attempted to retrieve the microphone, Hannigan allegedly retreated to the rear of the stage and constructed a low barricade out of bar stools and a fog machine. He continued performing from behind the barricade, reportedly making it through most of the karaoke canon — including an eleven-minute version of “American Pie” — while patrons gradually shifted from amused to hostile.
