PHOENIX, AZ — A 33-year-old woman who tracked down the man who stole her car using Apple’s Find My iPhone app inadvertently complicated the subsequent arrest by walking into the Taco Bell where the suspect was eating, sitting across from him, and ordering food before revealing she was the owner of the vehicle parked outside.
Cynthia Rayne Delacroix reported her 2021 Honda CR-V stolen from her apartment complex near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday. Rather than wait for police, Delacroix used Find My iPhone to track her phone — which she had left in the center console — to a Taco Bell on West Indian School Road, roughly four miles away.
Crunchwrap Confrontation
What Delacroix did next is the subject of some disagreement between her and the Phoenix Police Department. According to the police report, Delacroix entered the restaurant, identified the suspect — Alonzo Reeves, 28 — sitting alone in a booth, and instead of calling 911 from outside, sat down across from him and ordered a Crunchwrap Supreme and a Baja Blast.
“I was hungry and I was mad and I figured if I was gonna confront this man I should at least have a Crunchwrap. I’m not doing that on an empty stomach. That’s how mistakes get made.” — Cynthia Delacroix
Delacroix reportedly ate approximately half of her Crunchwrap in silence while Reeves, unaware of her identity, made small talk about the restaurant’s sauce selection. She then allegedly said, “That’s my car outside,” showed him the Find My iPhone screen on her Apple Watch, and called 911 while maintaining eye contact.
Reeves reportedly attempted to flee but was blocked by a family of five entering the restaurant. Officers arrived within minutes. Reeves was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. Delacroix’s car was recovered with no damage, though she noted the seat had been moved and the radio preset to a station she described as “unforgivable.” Both the arrest and the Crunchwrap have been documented on JailReport.lol. Reeves is being held on $7,500 bond.
