Puckett, a retired insurance adjuster from Macon, was apprehended on Augusta National’s iconic 12th green at approximately 10 PM holding a putter, a sleeve of Pro V1s, and a headlamp. He told deputies he had ‘driven down every year for thirty-two years and never once gotten a badge’ and that he ‘just wanted to putt on Amen Corner one time before he died.’ Security footage showed him entering through a maintenance road off Berckmans Road. He had successfully putted three balls before being detained, sinking one from approximately twelve feet. A small divot was left on the green, which Augusta National’s head greenskeeper described as ‘an act of violence against perfection.’
