Estrada-Colón launched a DJI Mavic 3 from the parking lot of a Hooters on Washington Road and attempted to fly it over Augusta National during Friday’s second round to capture aerial footage she intended to post to her golf Instagram account, which has 340 followers. The drone entered restricted airspace, narrowly missed a CBS camera tower near the 16th hole, and was tracked by Secret Service radar before crashing into a magnolia tree on the 17th fairway. The Secret Service, present due to a former president in the gallery, responded with what Estrada-Colón described as ‘way more agents than I expected.’ She told investigators she ‘didn’t know there was a no-fly zone’ despite the TFR having been published six weeks prior and a large ‘NO DRONES’ sign being visible from her launch position.
