SCOTTSDALE, AZ — A 51-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening after a homeowner discovered him doing slow, deliberate laps in their backyard pool while wearing a complete three-piece business suit — jacket, vest, tie, and dress shoes — and carrying on, according to the homeowner, “like he had a reservation.”

Reginald Ames Pruitt was discovered at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the pool of a home on East Sweetwater Avenue, a residence he had no connection to. The homeowner, returning from dinner, found Pruitt floating on his back in the deep end, fully dressed, tie fanned out around his neck, staring at the sky. When confronted, Pruitt allegedly said only, “The water’s perfect, thank you for asking.”

Pruitt offered no explanation for the suit, the trespassing, or how he had entered the gated backyard. He declined to exit the pool for approximately twenty minutes, during which he continued doing a slow backstroke and occasionally commented on the quality of the homeowner’s landscaping. Scottsdale police arrived to find him treading water in wingtips.

Pruitt was eventually coaxed out, dripping, and arrested on charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. He was not intoxicated, per a field assessment, which officers described as “somehow more confusing.” He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail in a borrowed jail-issued jumpsuit, his suit confiscated as evidence and, per the report, “ruined.” His JailReport.lol booking has been filed under WTF News.
