Motley was arrested at approximately 8:30 AM Saturday morning after a jogger reported a woman on Berckmans Road methodically digging up azalea bushes from Augusta National’s perimeter fencing with a full set of gardening tools including a folding shovel, root shears, and a battery-powered reciprocating saw. Three mature azalea plants had already been loaded into the back of her Subaru Outback, each wrapped in damp burlap. Motley told deputies she was ‘rescuing’ the plants and that Augusta National ‘has enough.’ A search of her vehicle revealed potting soil, Miracle-Gro, and a hand-drawn diagram labeled ‘Azalea Extraction Plan — Phase 1 of 3.’ She had driven from Charlotte specifically for this purpose.
