SAVANNAH, GA — A 28-year-old man was arrested at a Circle K on Abercorn Street Monday evening after attempting to purchase $37.42 worth of snacks — including four bags of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, two pints of Ben & Jerry’s, a party-size bag of Swedish Fish, and a 64-ounce fountain drink — by placing a gallon-sized Ziploc bag of marijuana on the counter and telling the clerk it was “basically cash today.”
Marcus Terrell Boggs reportedly entered the store at approximately 9:15 p.m., spent roughly twenty minutes selecting snacks with what the clerk described as “intense focus and zero urgency,” and then approached the register. When the total was displayed, Boggs allegedly placed the bag on the counter and said, “That should cover it. Happy 4/20.”

The clerk, who has asked not to be identified, told officers he initially thought it was a joke. When Boggs did not laugh, the clerk explained that the store accepts cash, credit, debit, and Apple Pay. Boggs reportedly responded, “What about Google Pay?” The clerk said yes. Boggs then said, “Okay, but what about weed?” The clerk said no. Boggs allegedly stared at the clerk for approximately fifteen seconds before saying, “That doesn’t seem right. It’s a holiday.”
“He wasn’t aggressive. He wasn’t rude. He genuinely seemed confused that I wouldn’t accept marijuana as payment. He asked if there was a manager who might ‘see it differently.’ I’ve worked here six years and this is the most polite crime I’ve ever been a part of.” — Circle K clerk, name withheld
The clerk called police. Officers arrived to find Boggs sitting on the floor of the candy aisle eating a bag of Sour Patch Kids he had opened but not paid for. He was arrested on charges of possession with intent to distribute and petit theft. The Ziploc bag was weighed at the station and found to contain approximately six ounces.
Boggs was booked into the Chatham County Jail, where he reportedly asked if the commissary accepted “alternative payments.” It does not. His JailReport.lol booking has been filed under our 4/20 special coverage. Bond has been set at $3,000.
