Salazar-Ríos was arrested after MARTA officials realized a decommissioned bus reported as scrapped in 2024 had been circulating through Buckhead for approximately two weeks picking up passengers via a fake Uber account. He had repainted it white, removed the MARTA signage, and installed an iPad on the dashboard running what appeared to be a homemade ride-sharing app called ‘UberXXL.’ He charged standard Uber rates. Multiple passengers gave him five-star ratings, with one noting ‘spacious vehicle, weird vibe.’ He told officers the bus ‘just sort of presented itself as an opportunity.’
