Kotsiopoulos entered a Foot Locker at Cumberland Mall, removed the left shoe from twelve different display pairs, and replaced each one with a shoe from a different pair so the theft would not be immediately obvious. It was immediately obvious. Store employees noticed within minutes when a customer pointed out that a size 9 Air Jordan 4 had been replaced with a size 13 New Balance walking shoe. Kotsiopoulos was found in the food court wearing six shoes — three per foot, stacked — and told security he was ‘testing a theory about arch support.’
